Maliko is the "pico" of Maui, completely forgotten off of an old finger of the old Hana Highway, 5 minutes North of Paia. You'll take an unexpected left turn and go back in time 100 years, in the lush tropical valley that has been completely planted with all of the original Polynesian voyaging plants that the ancient Hawaiians live and thrived on: coconut, taro, turmeric, ginger, ti leaf, ulu (breadfruit), breadfruit, sweet potato, lauhala, sugar cane, mamaki, lychee... You will start with a full tour of the farm. This is a working ti leaf farm with over 15,000 ti leaf plants, and also where we make our leis and teach regenerative agriculture, and demonstrate the ancient Hawaiian ways of agriculture and aquaculture. You will see the different plants and learn all their uses in ancient culture. You'll get to feed the fish and learn about sustainable aquaculture. Next you will sit down for tea grown on the farm and a short film, the Carbon Story, on carbon sequestration. Finally, you will learn how to make ti* leaf lei, and other Hawaiian crafts (block print, lauhala weaving, etc.) and take it home as your Maui souvenir! *Ti is a sacred Hawaiian plant (different from tea).
