Marrickville is a fascinating and quirky place. Occasionally grungy, with hidden treasures that can be hard to find. Not your typical Sydney neighborhood and vastly different from tourist haunts, you’ll find Marrickville full of vibrant life. With many interesting places to explore it is one of the most unusual places to visit in Sydney.

Caite and her doggie co-host Gea will let you dip into a mixed bag of the best of Marrickville. You'll learn about its history, see the Vietnamese and Greek influences, see prize winning architecture, try some Craft Beer at a local brewery and enjoy art in the streets. We’ll end the tour at a small Gin distillery to admire their gleaming copper stills and if you wish, enjoy a Gin & Tonic, a tasting of their gins or one of their cocktails. Cool, eclectic and entertaining, this unusual place in Sydney is a great place to visit.

I recommend allowing time after the tour to experience the amazing live music scene in Marrickville. I can give you inside information about the Live Music playing that night if you want to explore further after the tour.

We will be walking approx 3.5 kms/2 miles on level, paved footpaths. There are lots of stops and the pace is an enjoyable stroll. Bring a bag if you want to buy things from the places we visit.

I'm a passionate traveler, foodie, cook, filmmaker and storyteller. I love exploring and finding new places. Whether overseas or in my own backyard, I look for places that are quirky and interesting.

I've been everywhere in Sydney, my birth city. Marrickville is a gem because of its rich culture, music scene, restaurants, breweries, street art... I even found my doggie Gea here... she comes too!

I've curated a "mixed bag" tour that let's you have a taste of the best. I would love to share it with you... just 16 minutes by train from Central station. See more on Insta: @walkthiswaytours

Staðsetning

Part of Sydney's "Inner West", people have lived in Marrickville since the early years of Sydney. You will see older houses and industrial areas from the time when people lived close to the factories they worked in. This history has led to a vibrant contemporary space, where creatives and artisans have carved out new directions for work and play. The lively food scene, the street art and intimate music places create a great area to explore.

I booked this tour and due to covid was the only person on the tour which made it more personal. I’ve just emigrated so this is was a perfect way to learn and explore the area. I couldn’t have asked for a better guide.

A good walk around Marrickville with stops in quirky places and points of interest about the area and history. Local artists and local businesses highlighted. Went to a brewery and gin distillery we would not have come across without Caites knowledge of the area.

I highly recommend going on this tour to experience Marrickville with Caite and her dog Gea. I'm not big on tours. But Caite's tour popped up when I was looking for AirBNB accommodation in Sydney. So I thought, this will fill in an afternoon and I can stay on after, eat and catch some live music in Marrickville. Which I did. I ate at Corinthian Restaurant, one of the last Greek restaurants in Marrickville, and had ice cream next door at Gelato Franco. Highly recommend both of these. Then I went to see 2 Jazz Fusion bands at Lazy Bones. Also a venue I'd recommend. Caite had pointed all these out to me, as well as other options during our walk. I thought Gasoline Pony could be interesting for live music, but due to Covid restrictions and being a small venue, it was already full on a Wednesday night. Caite is passionate about all things Marrickville. Going on a tour with her and Gea is like roaming around with an easy friend to many interesting spots. Caite fills you in on, and takes you to see, both areas of historical interest and contemporary. Diverse range. We met at Marrickville Library where she filled me in on some history and showed me how the old Hospital building had been incorporated into the Library. I especially liked the public artwork on the Library building by Belinda Smith depicting the story of Patyegarang of the Cadigal people of the Eora Nation. Patyegarang taught language to early colonists. Astrologist William Dawes' notebooks prove that he knew that the Cadigal people knew about astrology. Part of the artwork is from a star map template that local Aboriginal groups provided to Belinda Smith. The other part are different words for features in the universe. We ended our day at Where's Nick Wine Bar. Sometimes the day ends at a Brewery. Seriously, do yourself a favour. Book a tour with Caite and Gea. It is far more than a tour. It is a fun and valuable experience.

Caite was ready and alert to greet her guests. A friendly chat at the beginning where she introduced us to Marrickville the suburb: the geography, the history, the people. The meeting place was a great location to start the tour. It was lovely seeing how the old and new architecture are moulded together to produce such a great public space. The tour was full of information throughout on the different food industries: food, cafes, breweries in the area. It was great hearing the different insights of the area. The tour ended at a gin distillery where we were served a delicious cocktail. Ending the tour by having a drink enabled us all to sit back, chat and enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon.

The tour had a really good mix of discovering new places, learning more about the history of the area and having a drink in a cool brewery. Catie was very approachable and personable. The tour was well paced, interesting and most importantly - we found out about all these hidden little gems we wouldn't have found on our own. We really enjoyed this tour - highly recommended!

It was a big pleasure to met Caite. She is a great guide for Marrickville. I never would have this experience without Caite. I enjoy every minute of this tour. I highly recommend this tour if you want to see a bit more than the Harbour bridge and Opera house of Sydney.
