We are Andrew and Clare and we own The Cotswold Reindeer Herd, and we are both passionate about reindeer!
We both hold Advanced Reindeer Husbandry certificates, which are the highest qualifications in the UK.
In 2010 we purchased our first reindeer, and in December 2016 drove to the Arctic to import more.
Subsequent calvings leaving us one of the largest reindeer herds in the UK.
I received an HND at distinction level whilst studying agriculture at The Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester, with a dissertation on the then rarely considered topic of the use of forestry in farming. I ran a private country estate for 20 years, introducing the first farm open days in the UK.
We are also passionate about animal welfare, and sensible farming integrated with nature.

Staðsetning

The Cotswold Reindeer Herd is totally unique in that we have one of the largest permanent reindeer herds in the British Isles.
Coming to our private home, our guests will visit these amazing creatures in the homes and paddocks they live in year round.
This is essentially an outdoor experience, we can however move certain aspects indoors if the weather is horrible.

An absolutely amazing experience. I’ve never really seen a reindeer before, and I also didn’t know much about them. Andrew and his wife are both very passionate and very knowledgeable, and happy to answer to any of your questions. Would definitely recommend.

This a great cultural and ecological experience in the Cotswold. I was thrilled to find our hosts are very knowledgeable and passionate about the deer. They are wonderful beasts and clearly have a strong bond with Andrew and Claire. It’s extremely difficult to manage a secure and mutually safe environment, in my experience, in these settings, so I’m really glad to report that this experience allows you a close experience with the animals to observe them without causing undo stress. I have seen people comment on the price but it is worth factoring the sheer cost of bedding and feeding these animals. So your money covers your ticket price but also helps provide for the animals in the year. (I think Andrew and Claire should 100% explain some of the costs associated with keeping the deer healthy and how customers are helping to do this, this allows people to feel like a part of the process and may leave them feeling a greater value in the day). I left 100% satisfied and would definitely attend this experience again. The deer are really wonderful and you can really get a sense of their personalities even in the short time you are on the site.

Fantastic experience! They were very knowledgeable about the reindeer and allowed us to enjoy close contact with them as well as giving us personal details about the individual reindeer as well as a general overview. They clearly love their herd. They were warm and welcoming and we would definitely return to stay in the lodge and visit Santa! 😁

What can I say, this was one of the most special experiences we have ever gotten to take part in. Andrew and Clare really know their stuff and care deeply about their reindeer. It’s highly unlikely you’ll ever find a better reindeer experience anywhere. You get to feed them, learn about them and hear the story of how it all started. Our kids 7 and 10 were so impressed and loved being able to be this close to the reindeer. Can’t say enough good things about our visit!

Well..... where do we start! This was booked as a last minute activity and we both were completely blown away by this amazing place! The welcome by both Andrew and Claire was so friendly and made us feel at home straight away. Although it was a ten minute talk it turned into over an hour and we were both completely in awe of what they have done and could have listened for days! The stories and their journey of getting to today are so inspiring and we both really enjoyed listening. Their knowledge about everything farming / agricultural is incredible and how that has been tailored to tending to their reindeer is apparent. Andrew’s scientific knowledge is insane and he explains everything in a way that simpletons like us can understand and makes it so interesting. The reindeer are clearly part of their family and treated as such. Although they need to do these experiences to help care for the reindeer, the reindeer are clearly not there for a commercial purpose: just to be loved and cared for. The entire place including reindeer is an absolute credit to them. #superfans
