Tours will meet in Jackson Square and last approximately two hours. From Jackson Square, I proceed through the historical French Quality as I speak about the amazing history, architecture and famous occupants. One of the stops includes the former site of the home of our famous Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau. From there, I enter the oldest African community in the United States, known as Treme, once named for a Plantation owner, Claude Treme. There I speak about some of New Orleans oldest traditions. Where some of our famous music originated. I explain our unique second line funerals, and the Mardi Gras Indian tradition. We visit the gigantic statue of Louis Armstrong. Normally, the tour would proceed to St. Louis #1 Cemetery located approximately 3 locks from Armstrong Park. However, unfortunately, due to COVID 19, the cemetery is closed until further notice. As an alternative, we will approach the front and side gates of the cemetery. There, you will be fascinated by the ornate tombs and the history of some of its occupants. I will also share photos and videos of the unusual burial process. I will explain how and why we bury our dead above ground.

I have been a tour guide for approximately 9 years in New Orleans. My tour guide services include, walking tours in the French Quarter, Garden District, St. Louis #1 Cemetery and #2. I can also create a customized tour to accommodate the tourist interest. (St. Louis #1 is currently closed to public access and St. Louis #2 is currently open on Sundays only)

I was born and raised in New Orleans and consider myself an authentic creole of French, Native American and African American descent.

Over my 9 years as a tour guide, I have consistently received 5 star reviews. I am a licensed tour guide. My license is issued by the City of New Orleans.

She lets you know right off the bat that sometimes she likes to talk about the locations and everything a lot and if it’s too long and you have another event to go to, let her know. She has a lot of connections to other people at the locations and she continues to learn more to tell the tourists. Amazing tour to go on with Muriel!!

Muriel was a really great tour guide during our stay in New Orleans. She is a local resident who grew up in New Orleans and is extremely knowledgeable of the history. Even though St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 was closed, she went out of her way to take us to Cemetery No. 3. She knows the people and the area so well that several folks even stopped to say hello to her along the tour. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who’s looking to learn about the History of New Orleans and the French Quarter. She was a lovely person and everyone in my group enjoyed talking to her. This was my third time in New Orleans and even I learned something new along the way. This is a must do tour for anyone visiting New Orleans!

Muriel made the most of a rainy day (and a full on thunderstorm) and guided us to dry spots while she continued the tour and gave us a really great, very personal perspective on New Orleans history. She was very knowledgable and a true New Orleans native. We really appreciated her time and attention to detail!

This tour with Muriel was GREAT!! She was very knowledgeable & she took us to many different locations! She gave us food recommendations & she was entertaining! Although we weren’t able to go to the Cemetery #1 because it was closed, Muriel was willingly to take us in her car to the Cemetery that was open if we had a smaller group. Highly recommend doing this walking tour!!

Muriel was great for my personalized tour! Make sure you read the instructions on where to meet, Airbnb has some issues putting in the correct info. We met at MURIEL’s restaurant, not the church and other members of the group didn’t head the instructions and didn’t catch up with us. While we walked to catch up to the others, she gave me an abbreviated tour. It rained for 50% of the tour so most of the tour was by car, which was still good because we went all around the areas of importance.

Muriel was amazing! She went above and beyond what was advertised in the tour to make sure we had a wonderful experience. Muriel made suggestions for new places to go due to Covid closures. She was patient with my young children (ages 7&9). Muriel knows so much local history and shared detail beyond surface level tourist info. I highly recommend booking a tour with Muriel.
