Það sem verður gert

The tour will start with introducing guests to the sheep. We have some very friendly sheep who love meeting new friends and getting some treats and scratches. I will talk with guests about why we are breeding the sheep we have, they are Shetlands and on the Nature Conservancy's list of recovering breeds. We will talk about what that means and why it is important to continue smart farming practices to conserve breeds that are important to diverse agriculture.
Once guests have had their fill of sheep snuggles, I'll talk about the benefits of wool and demonstrate different processing techniques to show guests how the wool goes from fluff to useable yarn and fabric. Guests will have the opportunity to dive in and try their hands at wool carding, spinning and knitting.
My hope is that guests will leave with a better understanding of the importance of conserving rare agricultural animal breeds, how their conscious choices while shopping for products can make a huge difference in animals lives, small farmers lives, their communities and the environment. We also hope they have fun meeting the sheep and working with the wool, after all, it is the memorable moments that really stick with people. Our goal is to take care of our environment while promoting rare agricultural animal breeds and educate others about the importance of taking care of the land, the animals and each other.

I have been a fiber artist for over 20 years, primarily working with wool. I have a B.S. in animal science from the University of Vermont, and deeply care about the proper care of animals and our environment. I love sharing my knowledge and skills with others and have been teaching fiber arts classes for a number of years. Since starting my sheep farm, I have been able to combine my love of animal care with fiber arts.

Staðsetning

Our farm is in a rural area, surrounded by farm land and just a mile from the beautiful shores of Lake Champlain. Wildlife abounds, from song birds, to deer, you'll love listening to the peaceful sounds of nature. We're located halfway between the bustling city of Burlington and the laid back, bucolic city of Middlebury. There are lots of wonderful museums, restaurants and attractions all within 10-20 miles.

We really enjoyed our personalized tour of Kelly's sheep farm. Kelly is very personable and knowledgeable...and the sheep🐑 are adorable! Great activity for families with kids or anyone interested in how wool becomes yarn! Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved spending some time with the sheep and learning about their personalities and care. Such a beautiful space (fields, the barn, some chickens too). We learned a lot and the sheep were so sweet! Great activity if you are in the area- highly recommend! Hope to be back soon!!

We weren’t sure exactly what to expect coming into this experience, but it is a must-book! Kelly’s sheep were so sweet and we learned a ton about running the farm and the fiber process. We got to try to spin some wool (very difficult, Kelly is impressive) and got a great lunch at the nearby Fiddlehead Brewing Company after. Wonderful day!

As great as everyone else says! Because we knew nothing about shepherding nor wool production, we asked Kelly a lot of Qs. She is so kind, patient, and clearly LOVES the world of all things wool! The history of these sheep is amazing. How their efforts weave into (pun intended) local sustainable like is beautiful. The sheep themselves - I didn't think I'd adore these little woolies, but I did! TIP: Stop at the corner gas station on the 7 for a "pit stop" before heading to her place - a bathroom isn't available to guests. We didn't know this, thus had to leave promptly due to being on diuretic, if you know what I mean. Thank you, Kelly and Flock!

We had a great time! Kelly is very knowledgeable and does a great job communicating in a way my kids understood. It was pouring rain during our visit, and we didn’t feel like we missed out on anything.

If you come across this experience, it’s a must do! Kelly is a joy to spend time with and the knowledge she shares about the farm and the Shetland sheep breed was interesting and very informative. I would definitely do this tour again and recommend it to everyone.
