Það sem verður gert
This is an in-depth walking tour focusing on traditional Japanese cultures of what used to be the heart of old Tokyo. I’ll help you navigate this maze-like area that interchanges between tradition and modernity. We’ll cover everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Japanese culture as a whole and local Asakusa culture stemming from old Edo, from the history of Buddhist and Shinto religions and how they’re practiced today to the best spots for local food, awe-inspiring traditional crafts and other arts of which many are on the verge of disappearing. This tour starts at Azumabashi Bridge over Sumida River which has been one of the most important and popular rivers in Tokyo. Actually, the story of Sensoji temple originated in this river 1400 years ago. Then, we move on to the world's well-known Thunder-gate with a giant red lantern hanging under the gate. That is the entrance to the world of Buddhist temple and Shinto shrine. Enjoy traditional sweets along the way humbly but proudly offered by long-established shops. With sleek rickshaws gliding through the Edo-style streets colorfully dotted with kimono, every moment is a photo op.
I am a national government licensed tour guide specializing in Asakusa, the heart of old Tokyo. This area is one of the most well known and popular tourist destinations and filled with nostalgic Japanese cultures of ordinary people lived in old Tokyo. Before, I had worked as a certified Japanese teacher in Japan and in the US. I learned "teaching language is teaching its culture." So as a tour guide, I would like to introduce not only the fact but also its background stories as much as possible. Having lived in Europe and the US for 18 years with my family, I was deeply touched by how friendly and kind the locals were. I realized how important it was to interact with locals since we were able to enjoy many memorable experiences. These nice experiences made me become a tour guide. I wish my guest unforgettable wonderful memories!

This is a walking tour, so wear sensible shoes and bring a bottle of water. There will be brief rest stops. I run a small company that trains tour guides to make them become specialized in Asakusa areas. Sometimes, my son Taka or another certified guide may host you when I cannot make it.
