What better way to learn about the secret lives of UK mammals than to use a trail camera ?

Come and join us as we explore the beautiful Bamff Estate and set up trail cameras to view the secret lives of the mammals that thrive there. We will identify field signs of species such as beaver, pine marten and otter, as well as show you how to correctly set up trail cameras for each species. This is a unique opportunity to have a fun filled day as well as gain some practical field skills.

Itinerary
- Meet and greet
- First we will explore the beaver ponds and identify signs of beavers
-We will then follow the burn that flows from the beaver ponds to identify field signs of otters
-We will then search the woodland for signs of red squirrels, roe deer and the elusive pine marten
-A demonstration of how to set up a trail camera to target each species will be shown.
-The best footage from all the cameras will be sent to you around a week later

On completion of this day you will gain valuable field skills (tracking, camera trap set up) and leave with an increased knowledge in the biology of UK mammals.

I am extremely passionate about wildlife in the UK and I take any opportunity to showcase this passion in an attempt to educate and inspire others.

I first learned how to set up camera traps to target species such as jaguar in the remote rainforest of Guyana. Since returning home to Scotland, I have applied these techniques in a variety of habitats to focus on a wide range of species. I have tailored my skills and spent 100s of hours in the field to identify field signs of often elusive animals. I have recently completed a degree in Zoology at the University of St. Andrews where I conducted extensive research on the limitations of camera traps.

This was an incredible experience! We learnt so much about the beavers, badgers and pine martens and lots of other animals too at Bamff and it sparked my imagination hugely. Wayne showed us footage on the camera traps of foxes and badgers and we visited the many dams built cleverly by the beavers. Opportunity to ask loads of questions, no matter how silly! Would highly recommend biologist Wayne. Thanks!

Wayne is super knowledgeable and passionate about what he does and there isn't much he doesn't know. He made the experience truly magical and interesting as we explored the grounds of the inspirational Bamff with the rewilding they have done. With the mixture of exploring the wilderness and experiencing the footage from camera traps it really felt like we were up and close with the local residents. This is a must do adventure for any nature lover.

I really recommend this. Wayne is very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and patient. I learned what beavers really eat, that they can cut down really big trees, that they can transform an environment in just 10 years. All this and signs to look out for to spot that barn owls, squirrels, pine martins and badgers are living in the area. I will get so much more out ofcountry walks after this. And i'm thinking to get my own trail camera. Thanks so much Wayne.

A fantastic introduction to the wildlife at Bamff. Wayne was a brilliant guide - really knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about the natural world. We learnt loads, in fact enough to discover beavers on our own afterwards! The kids had a great time and will remember the experience for a long time. Wayne was also very flexible in offering us a date that wasn’t advertised and then being very understanding when we made some mistakes with the GPS to meet him. Thanks so much Wayne!
