We will start the tour in the morning in one of the oldest markets in Colonia Roma, where we will find the most typical of Mexican gastronomy.
On this visit we will explore the most emblematic stalls, learning a little about the history and origin of each one, while we buy the ingredients that will be used later for cooking.

We will walk through the streets of the Roma neighborhood, admiring its Porfirian architecture and talking about it.

Finally we will arrive at our workshop, a contemporary space located in one of the most iconic squares in the colony. There we will learn how to prepare cochinita pibil, a traditional Yucatan pork-based dish, made with contemporary techniques. We will learn from scratch to prepare two typical Mexican sauces, in addition to guacamole and native corn tortillas.

The experience will end with the tasting of Oaxacan artisanal mezcals, enjoying all together the food we prepared.

The tour and the cooking class are led by Montserrat Garza, former chef at Pujol, Sartoria and Máximo Bistrot.

Originally from Andalusia, Spain, her passion for Mexican food was born in contemporary kitchens like Cosme in New York and Pujol in Mexico City. In the five years that she has lived in Mexico, she has traveled the country, exploring all the different varieties of Mexican cuisine, its ingredients and flavors.

My husband and I had to reschedule our original booking due to food poisoning and they very graciously allowed us to do so. We had a fun time! The kitchen space is beautiful. The guides answered our many questions. And we were so happily full at the end of it. Would recommend.

My fiancé & I are in town for our wedding this weekend & thought this would be a fun way to spend the afternoon - it was even better than expected! The class felt very relaxed, like helping friends prepare lunch. The food turned out amazing & Montse (& their crew) were great hosts. Definitely recommend to anyone interested in learning more about Mexican cuisine, getting their hands on some ingredients, & enjoying a wonderful lunch.

Montserrat was an amazing host. She is very interesting, fun and dynamic. She is a top notch chef and is a good story teller too. We've walked through countless markets before, but this time it was different as having her with us was way better and she oriented us to the market and some of the stalls. In addition, the cooking with her was educational and fun.

This event was originally named “learn to make tacos from a former Pujol Chef” they changed the event to ‘learn to cook Mexican cuisine” the week before my appointment. I asked for a refund, it’s been 3 weeks and still nothing. I can’t believe I got scammed before arriving to Mexico City.

My bf and I love to cook and loved learning from Monserrat! The kitchen space is also stunning! We learned a lot about the market, some seasonal produce and staples, as well as how to make 2 delicious salsas, guac, corn tortillas, and conchita pibil (the doable instant pot version). Oh and the refreshments (jamaica fresca and mezcal were delish, we ended up buying the mezcal at a local store later). Monserrat and her assistant Gabriella recommended some amazing local and hip restaurants, bars, taco joints, cafes, etc. We highly recommend this experience if you like hands-on experience and learn from professional chefs!

An incredible get together with Montserrat! We made new friends, shared great food and received insiders' knowledge. Overall it was an enriching experience that I always seek while traveling.
