Það sem verður gert

We'll start with a quick intro to figure drawing, painting and abstraction, then you'll be guided to journal and sketch to plan your own piece of art. Instant gratification — you'll be painting within half an hour and able to take your creation with you! (It'll dry pretty quickly - we use acrylic paints.)

You will learn how to concept and create a meaningful painting working with figures. Instruction is one-on-one, be prepared to get messy (I'm not the neatest painter) and delve into colours, ideas and techniques that will bring your concept to life on a canvas.
Other things to note
All pandemic safety protocols are followed in studio. That means your station and materials have been sanitized ready for your use. The instructor wears a mask and you are asked to bring yours as well. We have a washroom on site. This experience is limited participation for your safety.

I am an artist. I have drawn and painted all my life. My vision is to share my passion for art. In particular my own work focuses on the strength of individuals and I believe everybody is creative. As a painter, I know it's fun and a constant wonder to create new work and communicate through drawings, techniques, and colour.

I love doing workshops - I've facilitated team-building events of 85 and individual one-on-one sessions. People discover the joy that can be had exploring ideas and playing with paints. It's extremely rewarding for me and for them. Hamilton has an amazing art vibe and I can guide people to what's happening while they visit.

Staðsetning

You will be welcomed to my working studio and gallery, in the growing arts community of Hamilton, Ontario. You will have your own painting station. We will be exploring your talent and I promise to stay focused on you and your painting experience even if my in-progress piece beckons...your experience may even coincide to meet our visiting artists or you can attend art events we host (receptions etc.) after you 'figure it out'.

I went to Karen's figure it out workshop with no drawing or painting skills. After the session, I actually felt that I had a hidden talent; and a friend. The moment I walked in, Karen welcomed me with a big smile. We chatted about ourselves and my expectations of this class. I felt an instant friendship with Karen. It was like two friends catching up on a fall afternoon. Karen gave me a background on the basic concept of drawing, so I had a good foundation before we started. Her teaching style is very hands-on, making the session feel like a fun day of painting, rather than technical. The time flew by, and my art work actually looked like I knew what I was doing! She is an artist with a talent to share her craft. Her fine arts degree, background as a selling artist and warm personality made this experience a must. I want to book another session to further my new found painting obsession!

The experience itself and Karen far exceeded my expectations. She was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. I was impressed with the amount of knowledge and information Karen shared with me. I cannot stress enough the value this experience provided. As a beginner, I never thought I could be an artist but Karen has inspired me to look into more art courses. An all around great time that I would highly recommend to anyone. I'm so glad I decided to go.

Comfy clothes and shoes. This is a fun and casual atmosphere so no need to dress up however you might want to wear something that you won't worry about getting a bit of paint on... doesn't always happen but I know it inevitably does with me...
