Það sem verður gert

Our tour will begin on the farm with a welcome drink. While relaxing in a shaded part of the farm, I will present our community movement and teach you about how we grow our organic produce. After enjoying the welcome drink, we will walk along the community farm and learn about organic farming and the unique UNESCO- protected Subak System in Bali. During the farm tour, we will pick the ingredients that we are going to use during the cooking class for a true farm to table cooking experience.

Once we arrive at the centre of the community, Mai Organic farm, we will drink a refreshing juice made with vegetables and fruit from our local farms. Following the drink, we will prepare six Balinese dishes, such as tuna sate and corn fritters. Students are able to participate as much or as little as they would like. We keep our class sizes small (max 8 people) to allow guests to be more involved in the cooking process and to provide better attention to each guest. After we finish cooking, we will teach you about our traditional offerings that we give to mother nature. Lastly, you will enjoy your meal in a tranquil gubuk (hut) with new friends from the tour.

By supporting Mai Organic Farm, you are supporting a community of local farmers from Pejeng. Our movement aims to support the local farmers' and villagers' income while providing them with resources to improve their quality of life.
Other things to note
Free transfer service from Ubud centre only. If guests are staying outside of Ubud centre, we can help arrange transportation for a fee.

Mai Organic is a community-led movement to preserve traditional and organic agricultural village life in Bali.

My name is Kadek. After 15 years of working in the hospitality industry, I decided to come back to my home village in Pejeng to create a movement to support local farmers. I love farming, cooking, and eating delicious healthy food . This is why I founded Mai Organic Farm.

We are more than happy to invite you to come and learn more about our farm, our movement, and our history, and to taste delicious Balinese food that is cooked traditionally. By joining us, you will support and contribute to our sustainable, culturally-respectful tourism development in Pejeng, Bali.

I had a wonderful day at the incredible countryside. This places from the family’s house, to the own lil garden, to the rice fields and (picking up the peanuts or papaya) to the main outdoor kitchen area and farm called Mai Organicfarm were just magical. So much love behind it. I learned a lot about the ingredients and the recipes and enjoyed it so much. Especially the funny personal stories of Dwika the young chef. I would highly recommend it. Last but not least... The Food was so fresh and super tasty. Yummy day!

This experience was a top experience on our six-day stay in Ubud. What a wonderful community initiative! Our host was a lovely young man - so sorry I've forgotten his name - who was passionate and you could tell he enjoyed working at the farm. He told us all about how Mai Organic Farm is encouraging younger generations to embrace the traditional Balinese cooking methods and rural way of life. It was so great to go through different areas of the farm (which is quite big!) and pick the ingredients which we then cooked with. Nona, the farm dog, is also a very friendly dog and was a welcome companion. We are both vegan and felt very catered to (well, we were the only ones doing the tour - Covid-19 made our Bali trip extremely quiet) and enjoyed a magnificent feast after feeling very involved in the cooking process. One of our best meals in Bali, if not the best meal - we left feeling very full and couldn't finish everything! Thank you so much for this experience. I highly recommend it to everyone.

An amazing experience way beyond than just a cooking class. This is a movement to support the local organic farming and a culture sustainable project that educates the youth in the village. The driver picked us up from Kuta and it took about 1.5 hour to arrive the beautiful farmland. Pong was our guide, we felt so welcomed right away and we went to different parts of the farm to pick the ingredients, accompanied by the most adorable Luna 1 year old doggie the entire time. Pong have great understanding of traditional food and the village. It was so enjoyable to cook and get to know each other. We made 7 dish in total, plus Pong made an extra dessert for us. The hut where we enjoyed our meal from farm to table was very beautiful. We met the founder Kadek after meal and enjoyed a conversation about how he started and his mission to continue growing this movement. Highly highly recommend experience when you're in Bali.

We had the most wonderful time at the Mai Organic Farm and adored our guide Pung who was so friendly and knowledgeable. We made an absolute feast and everything was delicious. Loved being able to pick the ingredients from the farm ourselves too. An incredible community initiative to encourage eco tourism in the area and teach their younger generation their traditional ways to grow and cook. All round amazing and would recommend to anyone! Thank you Pung and Kadek!
