Það sem verður gert

Meet at Tokyo Skytree and walk under the world's tallest self-standing broadcasting tower. You will be overwhelmed by its massive and gigantic tower constructed with the image of a Japanese sword. Then, we visit a sumo stable to watch an early morning practice of "rikishi," professional sumo wrestlers. They live in the world of very strict sumo hierarchy. They are so serious to become stronger because the rank of the Grand Sumo Tournament directly affects their incomes. They know only the practice can make it possible. The morning practice starts before 7:00 a.m. with stretching, warming-up, and a routine of basic movements. We usually get into the stable around 8:00 a.m. when they start "Butsukari-geiko." The practice gets harder and harder as time passes by. You will be moved by watching dirty and sweaty serious-looking rikishi hit their bodies each other again and again. By that time, some of you may realize the very nice aroma around you. It is not a perfume of a lady but a smell of sweating Rikishi. Do you want to know where the nice smell comes from? The hint is Rikishi's topknots. Only those who attend there can experience the smell. We may have a chance to take photos with them around 10:00 after the practice. Then, they finally can have their first meal of the day, "Chanko" the famous sumo nutritious dish.

Yoko

I am a national government licensed tour guide specializing in the Shitamachi area, the east side of central Tokyo. This area is filled with the traditional Japanese culture of commoners in the old Tokyo. Sumo, the time-honored traditional Japanese martial art with 1500 years of history now became quite popular internationally. Many foreign-born professional sumo wrestlers called "Rikishi" have reached champions at Grand Sumo Tournament. Koto-ohshu, the first Sumo champion originated in Europe, is one of them. He was born in Bulgaria and I had lived there for four years when he was a child. I have been his fan for many years and am glad to know that he recently opened his own Sumo stable near my office. He says he wants to make sumo a popular world sport. I will be very glad if I can help my guests have a chance to know about sumo.

Staðsetning

Recently, many sumo stables are closing the doors to morning practice tours because of foreign tourists' bad manners. I guess, it is because the foreign tourists don't know what the sumo is. So, I hope they can learn what sumo means to the Japanese people properly through my sumo tour. Sumo is a very interesting traditional Japanese martial art that you can't miss during your stay in Japan!

Allt að 10 gestir frá og með 12 ára aldri geta tekið þátt. We will stay at the sumo stable for about two hours but most of my guests feel it short with excitement. There are some rules and etiquette to watch sumo practice. Please ask if you have any…

Fleiri ábendingar

Since the early morning practice is not a show for the tourists but the serious daily practice for Sumo wrestlers. There might be sudden schedule changes/cancellations due to the condition of sumo wrestlers/sumo events. In that case I will let you know ASAP for alternatives or you will be refunded.
