Það sem verður gert

We start at a bakery in the transitional part of Old Louisville, near the corner of Fourth and Oak, dubbed "Fourth and Fellini" by the locals in the 1970s, and over something sweet we'll get an overview of the neighborhood and its present-day challenges before setting off on foot. We'll head down South Third Street, the old Millionaires Row, and into the residential core of the neighborhood to learn about the bourbon barons, racetrack royalty, and titans of tobacco who built their mansions in the Derby City. After stopping in front of the old "Moorish Palace" to find out how I, an outsider, came to be Old Louisville's biggest fan, we'll duck into a local watering hole for a quick drink. From there, it's off to Saint James Court and Belgravia Court, the heart of the neighborhood where gas lamps flicker 24 hours a day along secluded, pedestrian-only lanes. As we continue on through Olmsted-designed Central Park and past the Witches' Tree into Floral Terrace, you'll learn something about the varied architectural styles that have made Old Louisville such a popular destination for old home buffs and you'll visit sites that have provided inspiration for my writing projects. One of these is a Fourth Street residence that made national news in 2010 when a scandalous crime was uncovered there. Since then, the mansion has been featured on shows such as "Deadly Sins" and Hell House."

Frekari upplýsingar um David

David

Author, chef, guide - I've lived in Kentucky's largest city since 1993 and I love showing off the Old Louisville neighborhood. I rented during law school, I bought and restored a six-bedroom château-style house on Millionaires Row while teaching at the university, I started a business here, and I've been on all the local committees and boards. You'll be hard-pressed to find someone who knows more about this 45-square-block historic district than I do. And I've written books that have brought to life its quirky characters, Victorian recipes, impressive architecture, and spooky legends. My true crime projects have earned me spots on "The First 48," "Dead Files," and many other national tv shows. I also founded Louisville Historic Tours, which The New York Times recommends as the first thing not to miss during your "36 Hours in Louisville."
