Það sem verður gert
I specialise in slipware pottery thrown on a potters wheel (of which there are 4). The pots are decorated with the coloured liquid clay (slip) that provides a wonderful fluid palette to create a wide range of decorative styles.
The great benefit of this course is that by using slips we are able to make and decorate the pots in the same lesson as the pots are decorated in their raw, unfired state. You therefore don't need to return to decorate the pots at another lesson, unless you want to of course!
The one-off lesson is suitable for adult absolute beginners as well as those revisiting skills that may have got rusty. If you have a particular project you want to try out (e.g. flower pot, mug, jug) then we will discuss how you can achieve that in the time available but feel free to let me know beforehand with ideas / pictures.
Pottery is a very broad subject and it can sometimes be difficult to know where to start, but if you just want to “have a go at pottery” then we can generally fit in a go at throwing some pots of different styles / forms.
The aim will be to have made at least one decorated pot you can either take home (in raw clay state) at the end of the lesson or wait for it to be fired (approx. 3 weeks) for collection or posted at cost.
Other things to note
Clay can be a messy business!
I have aprons and towels but you may want to consider the following:
• Clothes - the oldest you have. We’ll be using earthenware clay which is quite unforgiving on clothing.
• Nails - best if cut but not a real issue.

I have 25 years of experience in ceramics in its various formats (including hand building and throwing on a potters wheel) and have taught for 10 years. I love sharing the experience of handling clay by teaching small classes from my workshop which is situated next to my wife's fused glass studio where she also runs classes.
Staðsetning
The lesson takes place in a fully functioning, professional pottery studio based at the end of my garden. This is situated next to my wife's fused glass studio where she also runs classes. If you'd like to do both or split a class with a group feel free to drop me a message.

As a first experience, Chris was a wonderful teacher and this was even better our expectations. Really authentic, genuine and one to one tuition. Absolutely amazing value for money, everything's included no additional costs, he ensured that we got something to take away at the end. You could try marbling decoration and other little tricks that Chris showed us to decorate your pots. Couldn't recommend it more!
