The preparing and baking of naturally-leavened bread is usually done over the course of a couple days, so this workshop gives you hands-on experience with the steps, without waiting the full time for each.

We start with an overview on the local natural ingredients and some fun facts about the "whys" of the bread.

Next you get to feed your very own starter, give it a name, and learn how to take care of your new baby.

Then we'll cover the leaven.

While doing this we'll toss some ready to bake dough into the oven.

Then on to the dough and the folding. You'll do this for a couple rounds in class, and then can take home and finish and bake according to your schedule.

We'll of course sample the bread and discuss great custom loaves. Past students may show up and share some of their recent creations.

You'll have instructions throughout that you can take home.

Hi, I'm Jordan.

I dove deep into learning the classic method of making bread with just flour, water, and a little salt. I wanted to get the great flavour, fantastic nutrition, and incredible versatility that homemade bread brings, so I began my journey. After loads of videos, reading and re-reading books, bread class, and weeks of caring for my homegrown starter, I baked my first bread. From there I baked every weekend, and began sharing the bread and the method I'd customized for me. The reaction was unlike anything I'd experienced with a creative venture. Hence I'm sharing that method in the format I wish I had available to me when I learned: a hands-on workshop.

Every home should have fresh-baked bread. It isn't that hard - humans have been doing it from the dawn of time.

Staðsetning

The class is taught in the instructor's home in Suncrest in Draper, Utah, at the South end of the Salt Lake Valley. It has a roomy modern kitchen, with immaculate views of the Wasatch Mountain Range. All ingredients are from within an hour or two of Draper.

Jordan is clearly passionate about baking and especially sourdough. He had a lighthearted, hands on and supportive approach. I loved hearing some of the quirky aspects of his sourdough interests. The views from his home were incredible. We took the bread we baked to a picnic the next day and it was a hit!

We loved learning how to make sourdough bread in a hands-on, visual way. Reading a book or even watching a video tutorial is one thing, but getting your hands in the dough is another! Jordan, created the best vibe! Learning to bake was a joy, he was super friendly and a great host. Not to mention his house has a GORGEOUS view ! Definitely will schedule another event with him!

Jordan was an engaging host who is clearly passionate about his subject. His home is the perfect setting. His assistant, Jessica, was a huge help, as seven guests would have been a bit much for one instructor given the number of steps involved in the process. Gorgeous pottery bowls for use with baking were available for purchase, although the asking price was out of my range. As with any group exercise, the experience is largely shaped by who is in attendance. A personal booking may be preferable if a person can afford to do so.
